Today, I’d like to share one of the most unforgettable experiences from my internship—my hike in the Nakadake area.
On the way up the mountain, we saw some horses peacefully grazing in the fields. It was the perfect start to the trip.
Since Taiwan doesn’t have volcanoes, this was my first time seeing an active volcano. I was incredibly excited.
Because of the recent helicopter crash, the area near the accident site was temporarily closed, so we hiked a nearby mountain instead. The scenery was still absolutely stunning.
Along the trail, I spotted adorable wild boar footprints. It was fun to imagine them coming out at night.
At first, I thought the ground was covered with sand, but it was actually volcanic ash.
At the crater, we saw white steam on one side and blue volcanic gas on the other. It was breathtaking. Our supervisor reminded us to be careful because the gas can be dangerous.
After the hike, our supervisor shared a traditional Japanese snack similar to mochi. It was the perfect ending to an amazing day.
