Today, I’m taking you to enjoy nature and admire the beautiful scenery of Mount Aso along the way.
Mt. Komezuka
On the drive to Kusasenri, you will pass by Mt. Komezuka on Mt. Kishima.
Its shape looks just like a small bowl-shaped hill.
Kusasenri
This vast green grassland is the famous Kusasenri.
In the middle, there is a small pond formed by rainwater, which looks especially beautiful on a sunny day! After walking through the green meadow, the next stop is Mt. Eboshi, one of the Five Peaks of Aso.
Mt. Eboshi
Standing at 1,337 meters, this is the easiest mountain among the Five Peaks. The trail is simple one, just keep going upward and you’ll reach the top !
The round trip takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. If you hike in the morning, the weather can get quite hot, and since there’s little shade along the way, make sure to use enough sun protection and drink plenty of water !
There are two main routes. It’s recommended to take the right path going up, as it’s less steep, and then return via the left path. This way, you’ll get a great view of Mt. Aso in the distance, which makes the descent even more enjoyable!
However, on some parts of the trail the grass grows taller, so watch your step carefully.
Also, if it has rained, the trail can be slippery, so be extra cautious while walking!
Special Activity: Horseback Riding
One of the most popular activities here is horseback riding. The horses will take you on a gentle ride around Kusasenrigahama, letting you enjoy its beauty at a relaxed pace. Even if you’ve never ridden a horse before, professional staff will guide you, so you can just sit back and enjoy the experience!
Kusasenri Coffee
This is a popular café known for its minimalist white design.
Their coffee is smooth and delicious, and if you like it, they also sell coffee beans and drip bags nearby. While waiting for your coffee, you can also take a look at the souvenir shop next door.
If you come to Aso, this is definitely a place you shouldn’t miss. The natural scenery here is something you won’t find in Taiwan ! What’s most impressive is how well the area is maintained. On my hike from Kusasenri a up to Mt. Eboshi, I didn’t see a single piece of trash. The clean and fresh environment, together with the magnificent views, truly makes it an unforgettable experience.

Caution from Aso-city: Keep a safe distance from grazing horses!

2.Avoid sudden movements and loud noises near the grazing horses.
3.Do not feed grazing horses.
