Enjoy Cherry Blossoms in Aso: Easy Spots Near Michi-no-Eki Aso

Spring is arriving in Kumamoto City, where the cherry blossoms are just about to reach full bloom.

Here in Aso, however, they’re already almost at their peak—despite being at a higher elevation!

If you’re visiting Michi-no-Eki Aso, this is the perfect time to enjoy some nearby cherry blossom spots, all within walking distance:

Aso Cuddly Dominion (about a 20-minute walk)

Rows of cherry trees line the parking area, creating a stunning scene now that they are nearly in full bloom.

Hama Shrine

A quiet, historic shrine cherished by the local community. The combination of the shrine and cherry blossoms is especially beautiful at this time of year. It’s also close to Cuddly Dominion, making it easy to visit both in one trip.

Toshinokami Spring

Cherry blossoms bloom beside a clear, spring-fed pond, with peaceful rice fields stretching out below. Around the same time, kobushi (magnolia) flowers also bloom, creating a soft palette of pink and white—perfect for experiencing rural spring in Japan.

Aso Shrine

One of the main viewing spots in the area. A special nighttime illumination (March 25 to April 8, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm) is currently underway.
The combination of cherry blossoms and the iconic Romon Gate is especially beautiful at night— highly recommended if you’re in the area right now.

We hope you enjoy the beauty of spring here in Aso.
