The beautiful mountain scenery covered with green grass has been maintained through prescribed burning, carried out by local people in Aso for more than 1,000 years.

The schedule for Noyaki (prescribed burning) this year has been announced by Aso City.
📄 Road Closure Information during Prescribed Burning (Aso City)
If weather conditions are not suitable on the scheduled day, the burning will be postponed to the following week.

On the day of burning, some roads will be closed for safety and to allow the work to proceed smoothly. Please understand that this is not a tourism event, but an important agricultural practice for the local community.

In about one month, tiny and charming yellow violets will begin to bloom on the blackened soil.

In about two months, the grasslands will turn into a lush green carpet, and you will see lovely brown Akaushi cows grazing peacefully.

The Aso grasslands are the source of a rich variety of plants and insects.
They also play an essential role in supplying clean and abundant groundwater.

We are all looking forward to welcoming you back to see the beautiful green grasslands of Aso again this summer.
