Daikanbo is one of Aso’s most famous scenic viewpoints, located on the outer rim of the Aso caldera.
From the observation area, visitors can enjoy expansive views of the vast caldera, the Aso Five Peaks, and the surrounding countryside. It is especially well known for its dramatic sunsets and, on certain mornings or evenings, the beautiful “sea of clouds” that forms below, making it a popular spot for sightseeing and photography.
Access:
By car/taxi – approx. 26 minutes drive from Michi no Eki Aso. (Free parking available at Daikanbo)

By bus (weekdays) – The bus will not stop directly at the lookout point during weekdays, but at the Daikanbo Iriguchi bus stop instead. There is a walk taking approx. 32 minutes from the bus stop to the lookout point.

By bus (weekends) – During the weekends, two out of the four buses will continue to the lookout point without the need to walk.
