Mount Aso is a volcano located in Kumamoto Prefecture,Kyushu Island. It is one of the largest active volcanos in japan and is very famous for the caldera formed by a previous eruption. It is registered as a World Geopark.
It still erupts regulary,but if the eruption warning level is low, you can climb the mount by cars or public buses and experience a visit to the crater of an active volcano.
The area around Mt.Aso is also famous for hot springs caused by the large active volcanoes, and there are many hot spring resorts in and around the mountains.
The area around Kumamoto Prefecture was once called ‘the country of fire’.
Here,’fire’ represents Mt.Aso and its regular eruptions.The nickname suggests that this mountain has been a symbol of the area since ancient times.
