Hi everyone!
This morning, we received a call from Aso City Hall with some exciting news:
“The Miyamakirishima azaleas at Sensuikyo are now in full bloom!”
Our roadside station staff headed straight there to see it for themselves!
Sensuikyo Gorge is about a 15-minute drive from Michi-no-Eki Aso (Aso Roadside Station).
The parking lot is spacious, free of charge, and has restroom facilities available — making it an easy spot to visit by car.
If you prefer public transportation, the closest station is Miyaji Station, but please note:
it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes on foot from there, with a 370-meter elevation gain.
If you enjoy hiking or scenic walks, this route can be a beautiful adventure!
The road leading to Sensuikyo is a peaceful country lane surrounded by green pastures.
You may even spot free-range cattle grazing nearby — please observe quietly and respectfully as you pass by.
Once you arrive at the parking lot, you’ll find a walking trail (with steps) that leads directly to the blooming azaleas.
The full trail can be enjoyed in about 20–30 minutes, but there are some steep sections,
so we highly recommend comfortable walking shoes.
Here’s what Sensuikyo looks like today — May 7th:
The vivid pink of the azaleas against the lush green mountains is truly breathtaking.
It feels like stepping into a natural masterpiece, painted by spring itself.
In recent years, blooming has been limited, but this year’s flowers are the most abundant we’ve seen in several seasons!
We expect the best viewing to continue until around mid-May.
With pleasant weather and stunning scenery, now is the perfect time to visit.
Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or just looking for a peaceful escape,
Sensuikyo is waiting for you this spring.
✨Don’t miss this once-a-year floral spectacle in the heart of Aso, Japan!
