Aso Shrine Hifuri Fire Festival

A Festival of Fire That Heralds Spring in Aso

⛩️ Why not experience a magical night at the “Hifuri Shinji” (Fire-Swinging Ritual)? 🔥

A traditional event that marks the end of Aso’s harsh winter and the arrival of spring. One of its highlights is the powerful nighttime ritual known as the “Hifuri Shinji.”

The Festival reenacts the wedding of the ancestral deity of the priestly families of Aso Shrine.

It has been passed down through generations as a sacred ritual praying for a bountiful harvest and the peace and prosperity of the land.

🔥 Rings of Fire Dancing in the Night Sky

In the Hifuri Shinji, bundles of grass are lit and swung vigorously, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

As dozens of participants swing the flames at once, countless glowing rings of fire appear in the darkness, forming a truly unique scene.
