Hello everyone, I’m Jessica, an intern at Michinoeki.
The annual Aso Genki Walk is finally here! This two-day event is usually held in the first week of September, welcoming participants of all ages. What makes it so special? Let’s head to the venue together and find out !

After parking, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the starting point. Don’t worry about getting lost—signs clearly guide the way. There are three routes to choose from: 5 km, 10 km, and 20 km. Today, I’m taking on the 10 km challenge !
By 9 a.m., the venue was already packed. Everyone joined the warm-up session led by the host before setting off.
As we walked, we enjoyed the peaceful countryside views of Aso. The route was relaxing, but the heat was intense !
Staying hydrated was a must, along with hats, sleeves, sunscreen, and cooling items. Before I knew it, we had already reached the halfway point.
Finally, the midway rest area ! People lined up to stamp their event cards, refill water, and taste local snacks—fresh tomatoes and pickled cucumbers with wasabi from local farmers. Refreshing and energizing! After a short break, it was time to keep moving.
✅10K Challenge Completed!
We reached the finish line! Back at the venue, participants received another stamp, a completion certificate, and a small reward. The best part? Unlimited shaved ice with flavored syrup—perfect for cooling down after the long walk.
⭐️Overall, the course was flat, almost like taking a walk—very simple. The biggest challenge was the heat and endurance, especially in the last two kilometers, when I could clearly feel the soreness in my thighs and calves. But with everyone cheering each other on, we quickly made it through. Tomorrow, the challenge continues. Let’s start another energetic day together !
