Cold-Water Springs in Ubuyama Village
Did you know there are over 1,500 natural cold-water springs in the Aso region, including even the smallest ones?
Ubuyama Village, nestled in this area, is home to some of the most beautiful springs, where you can actually see the water emerge from the ground.
The Aso region is the source of six major rivers in Kyushu and supports a large population across the island.
Today, I’d like to introduce two of the most scenic and accessible springs in Ubuyama Village:
1. Ikeyama Suigen
- Access: Easily reachable from Yamanami Highway (Route 11)
- Parking: Just a 2-minute walk from the parking lot
- Water Flow: Produces 30 tons of fresh spring water per minute.
2. Yamabuki Suigen
- Location: Tucked deep within the quiet village
- Access: Enjoy a slow, scenic drive through the peaceful countryside
- Parking: About a 10-minute flat walk from the parking lot
- Water Flow: Also produces 30 tons of fresh spring water per minute
Both springs have designated spots near the parking areas where you can fill your bottles with fresh, clean spring water.
Please note that the spring sources themselves are considered sacred by the local community. They are vital sources of water for the villagers, so visitors are kindly asked not to touch or play in the water at the source.
With the hot and humid Japanese summer approaching, why not take a refreshing trip to Ubuyama Village and experience the healing power of nature in the Aso region?
